Note: In the 1730's, John Patrick, James, and Robert Boyd, sons of George Boyd of Lancaster Co., PA, moved to Virginia and settled in Lunenburg Co., on the Dan River at a site where Lawson creek empties into the river on the south side. In late 1752, the county of Halifax was carved out of Lunenburg. The Boyds remained residents of Halifax Co., residence known as John Boyd's Settlement. Also ran Boyd's Ferry. City of South Boston, Halifax Co. was established at this point. Note: Jul 1752 - obtained a license to keep a ferry on Dan River, Lunenburg Co. Note: Will probated 10 May 1757, Halifax Co.
