The MD Will Book copy (13:210-212, FHL microfilm 0,012,845) says "Daughters Verlinda Mary & Eliza" [raised "a" in "Eliza" which I can't show on the list, which is an abbreviation for Elizabeth.]
The Prince George's County will book copy [1:46-48, FHL microfilm 0,014,279] says "Darturs Verliner Mary & Eliner"
Since Sarah and Eliza. [Elizabeth] [listed as Sary and Elisabeth in the PG copy] were to receive ten pounds, and the other three daughters [with five sons] were to receive 2/3 of the personal estate, I am inclined to believe the PG copy, that it is Eliner, and that Elizabeth was not given both 10 pounds and a share of the 2/3.

The probable birthdate of Eleanor Magruder, the wife of Nehemiah Wade is the most convincing argument against Sarah Pottenger, born 1659, being the wife of Samuel Magruder (1660-1711) and in favor of the Sarah Mills, born 1670, favored by (I think) Linda Reno. Eleanor Magruder was most likely born after the 23 Nov 1710 will of her father and possibly after his death which was before his 16 Apr 1711 probate. Eleanor isn't mentioned in her father's will but is given as a daughter of Samuel and Sarah Magruder and the wife of Nehemiah Wade in the 16 Jan 1731/32 will of her mother, Sarah Magruder. Nehemiah Wade was born about 1705, and Eleanor and he were married about 1729.

Subject: Beall/Magruder/Pottenger/Mullikin
Several people have asked for my reasons for concluding that John Pottenger married Mary Mullikin and Samuel Magruder married Sarah Pottenger. Here is a brief summary.
Mary Mullikin of Calvert Co., MD., widow of John Demall (Demarell) and of James Mullikin, made a testamentary deed in 1667 in which she named her children John Demall (jr.) and James (jr.), Mary and Elizabeth Mullikin. Archives of MD. 57:216.
John Demall (jr.), in his will of 1725, named his "cosen" Robert Pottenger. MD. Calendar of Wills 6:36. (This reference was called to my attention many years ago by Douglas Richardson.) Mary Mullikin's will shows that John Demall (jr.) had no full brothers or sisters but did have three half-siblings through his mother's second marriage, to James Mullikin.
The inventory of John Demall (jr.) in 1727 named Thomas Mullikin as next of kin. Thomas Mullikin was a son of James Mullikin jr.
John and Mary Pottenger had a son Robert Pottenger, who, being the only man of that name in Maryland at the time, was obviously the "cosen" named in John Demall (jr.)'s will. Chronology indicates that Robert was a generation younger than John Demall jr., making an uncle-nephew relationship most likely.
No marriage or other post-1667 record has been found of Mary Mullikin, daughter of James and Mary, under that name.
An exhaustive study of the Pottengers in England fails to suggest any way in which Robert Pottenger could have been related to John Demall jr. through Robert's father. See Neil R. Thompson and Paul C. Reed, "The Ancestry of John Pottenger, Immigrant to Maryland in 1684," TAG 68:139 (1993).
It is concluded that the Pottenger-Demall relationship came through Robert Pottenger's mother. The obvious inference is that John Pottenger's wife, Mary, was Mary Mullikin, half-sister of John Demall jr.
Samuel Magruder named "my brother John Pottenger" in his will. If John Pottenger married Mary Mullikin, the only way in which Magruder and Pottenger could be brothers (-in-law) is if Magruder's wife Sarah was Pottenger's sister, and as shown previously John Pottenger did have a sister Sarah who is otherwise unaccounted for. Nat Taylor asks how we can foreclose the possibility that Magruder's wife was a Mullikin. The answer is that Mary Mullikin named no daughter Sarah in her testamentary deed of 1667, and there seems no reason to believe that she had other children not mentioned.

27 Aug 1730; Samuel Magruder, Sr., Gent., and John Magruder, Gent., sold William Beckwith 100 acres called Magruder's Hazard; ack by Samuel Magruder and Eleanor his wife and John Magruder and Susanna his wife (PGLR Q.90)

"Across the Years in Prince George's County", pp. 536-537
The part of Calvert Co where he was born became Prince George's (PG) in 1695, Frederick Co (FC) in 1748 and Montgomery County (MC) in 1776. His wife, Eleanor Wade, was the daughter of Robert Wade, as evidenced by a deed referring to land given her by her father (PG Deeds M, f. 154; transcript in 1958 American Clan Gregor Society (ACGS) Year Book, p. 21).
In 1713 Samuel Magruder of Prince George's Co bought from Thomas Underwood for 16,000 pounds of tobacco, 200 acres of the tract "Joyes Fortune" (PG Deeds E, f. 27). On 23 Nov 1726 Samuel Magruder Senior and Eleanor his wife of PG Co, in consideration of the love and affection they bore their son Samuel Magruder, executed a deed conveying to him 200 acres of "Joys Fortune" (PG Deeds M, f. 107). The same day they gave their daughter Sarah Tubman, wife of Richard Tubman, a tract called "Forrest Green" which had been bequeathed to Eleanor Magruder by her father Robert Wade (PG Deeds M, f. 154]. Sarah is not named in Samuel Magruder's will).
In July 1738, Samuel Magruder sold to Thomas Clark for 190 pounds the 200-acre tract "Creighnight" described as "the now dwelling plantation place of Samuel Magruder," and 50 acres of "Good Luck" together with the dwelling house, kitchen, quarters [slave quarters], tobacco houses, barns, orchards, yards and gardens (PG Deeds T, f. 620). In November he joined with Ninian, James, William and Alexander Magruder in conveying 200 acres of "Good Luck" to John Magruder. His wife Eleanor was named in the acknowledgement to the deed (PG Deeds T, f. 675).

"Samuel Magruder Senior of Prince George County" wrote his will on 20 Jan 1739, filed 9 Feb 1779 (Montgomery County Estate Records A, f. 81).
He named his wife Eleanor executrix and left her his dwelling house with 220 acres of land, part of "Potomack River Side" during her life and her riding horse. [Patent records show no such tract; it may simply be the name Samuel Magruder gave it.]
Children named and his bequests to them:
Elias Magruder, dwelling plantation after death of wife Eleanor, 1/3 of a lot and improvements in Upper Marlborough Town.
Alexander Magruder, 140 acres "being part of a tract of land that is between William Beall and me," and (with brother Josias) store house at Nottingham.
Josias Magruder, 113 acres "being part of Potomack River Side joining on w. Thomas Jenian and his unckel Alex. Magruder lands and so up ye river," and (with brother Alexander) store house at Nottingham.
William Mills Magruder, 100 acres of the upper end of "Potomack River Side," 2 cows and calves, provisional (see below).
Eleanor, daughter, provisional (see below).
Lucey, daughter, provisional (see below).
Samuel Magruder, 5 shillings.
Zachariah Magruder, 5 shillings.
Elizabeth Spencer, daughter, 5 shillings.
If any one of "my three sons, Alex., Josias and Elias should dey with out eschew then his land to be equally devided ye other two survivors; if any two of them should die without issue one of their lands be equally divided between daughters Eleanor and Lucey; if all three sons should die without issue all their lands should be divided equally between William Mills Magruder and Eleanor and Lucey.
The residue of the estate to be divided equally between "my sons Alex Magruder, Josias and Elias and my two daughters Eleanor and Lucey."
It was witnessed by John Clagett, Joshua Bursey, and A. Magrudr.
