                   Obituary, The Waverly Herald, Ohio, September 19, 1962:     Sanford S. VanMeter, 75-year-old farmer of Idaho neighborhood, was fatally stricken about 10 A.M. Tuesday, Sept. 13 while talking to some young hunters on his farm. The youthful hunters said that they had obtained permission earlier from Mr. VanMeter on his farm and he came to see how they were doing and at the time of his death had been on the ground resting while talking. Pike County Coroner, Dr. Paul Jones was summoned and gave a verdict of death due to heart attack. Born on Jan. 23, 1887 at Morgantown, near his present home, he was the son of John I. and Emma (Parker) VanMeter. On Aug. 10, 1911 he married Edna M. Morehead who died Apr. 10, 1962. The couple had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Surviving are five sons, Kenneth M. of New Burlington, O., Stanley N. of Springfield, Dallas N. of Chillicothe, Rt. 4, Donald L. of Idaho and Robert D. of Piketon, Rt. 2 and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters, a son and two brothers. Furneral services were held at 2 P.M. Friday at Pennisten Chapel Church with Rev. Lewis VanMeter officiating. Burial followed in Arkoe Cemetery under direction of Botkin Funeral Home of Waverly.

                   The Chillicothe Gazette , Chillicothe, Ross Co OH; 12 Apr 1962:EDNA VANMETER. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Pennisten Chapel on Route 124 for Mrs. Edna M. VanMeter, 72, of Idaho, Pike County. The Rev. Lewis VanMeter will officiate, and burial will be at the Arkoe Cemetery by Botkin Funeral Home. Mrs. VanMeter died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday in the residence of her son, Doug, on Piketon, Route 2, after a long illness. She was born March 13, 1890, in Pike County, the daughter of William and Lillian Henry Morehead. On Aug. 10, 1911, she married Sanford VanMeter, who survives. Also surviving are five sons, Dallas, Chillicothe, Donald, Idaho, Stanley, SpringField, Kenneth, New Burlington, and Robert (Doug). Three brothers also survive. They are Ivan Morehead, Bainbridge, Route 2, Frank, Washington C.H., and Harley, Greenfield. Two daughters, a son and a sister predeceased her.
