Chillicothe Gazette, p. 1, Wednesday, March 8, [1950](vol. 150, no. 57): " Sale of the W. M. Norvell Co. to Uhlman & Co. of Bowling Green was announced Wednesday.

"The transaction was completed Tuesday through attorneys of the Walter Norvell estate and Harry Ottman. Fred W. Uhlman flew here from Miami Beach, Fla., and was joined here by his son Fred Jr., of Bowling Green, to complete the deal.

. . .

" Mr. Uhlman announced that Mr. Ottman would remain with the store in an advisory capacity. The store will continue to be known as Norvell's and will have the same personnel. 'We will continue to sell the same high type of merchandise that Norvell's has been known for through many years,' Mr. Uhlman, Sr. said. No particular changes are contemplated in the store at the present time, but after the spring season, Mr. Uhlman said, extensive changes will be made in the physical setup.

"An institution in Chillicothe, the Norvell store has operated since 1913, when it was purchased from Stutson and Johnston. Originally, it was known as Norvell and Hartley until 1924, when Russell E. Hartley retired. Since then, it has been the W. M. Norvell Co. with Mr. Ottman, who had been with the firm since 1913, becoming a partner.

"The sale was consummated in settlement of the estate of Mr. Norvell."
