Armstrong & Co., Cincinnati, OH 1878):    Lawyer, born January 6, 1828, son of Abner and Pamelia Clarkson Cunningham; father Abner was a native of Clark Co., KY, farmer, moved to Missouri in 1852, died in 1853; grandfather, Robert Cunningham, was born in Virginia, moved to Clark County, was soldier in War of 1812; mother Pamelia was a native of Bourbon Co., KY, daughter of Peter Clarkson, a farmer and native of Virginia; attended Winchester Academy, entered Centre College at age 16, graduated in 1846; entered study of law under Judge James Simpson at Winchester, served as deputy circuit court clerk for Clark County, admitted to the bar in 1850; moved to St. Joseph, MO, practiced law there until 1865, represented Buchanan County, MO in lower house of Missouri legislature (first Whig from that county so elected), in 1865 relocated to Paris, Kentucky, established law practice in Paris, elected to Kentucky State Senate in 1873, delegate to 1876 Democratic Presidential Convention; first presidential vote was cast for General Winfield Scott (1852), identified with Whig party until its dissolution, now a Democrat; member, Episcopal Church; in 1849, married Sarah Batterton of Nicholas County, who died in 1856; in 1858, married Anna Belle Boyd, a native of Berkeley County, Virginia.
