Baskin & Co., Chicago 1882): (both born in Virginia), born June 15, 1795 in Hardy County, Virginia; married December 27, 1817 to Mary Bean, who was born September 23, 1796 on Strode's Creek in Clark County, KY; moved to Bourbon County in 1818; meager formal education, but was a close and steady thinker, liberal patron of good books and public journals, became a well-informed man of the locality; sucessful farmer, large land owner at the time of his death, encouraged breeding and growth of fine stock, especially short-horn cattle and horses, notably "Woodpecker;" warm and ardent admirer of Henry Clay; served as Justice of the Peace from 1833 to 1850; elected to State Legislature in 1833, re-elected in 1839, and to State Senate in 1851, 52, 53, and 54; died August 17, 1864; survivors, by wife, who lives on the homestead with son John and daughter Naomi, sons Robert and Louis live on farms nearby. G&BS, p. 168: married Mary Bean resided whole life in Bourbon County; served a campaign in War of 1812, volunteered at age of 19, served hazardous and severe campaign under General Shelby, participated in the Battle of the Raisin, was with the Kentucky troops who crossed into Canada and was on British soil when peace was made; represented Bourbon County in State legislature.

Stipp, Sallie who married Ben. Stipp, and Ray, unmarried, lives with parents; member, Christian Church, Mason, owns 123 acres of land, breeder short horn cattle; Whig prior to the War, "views are now in accord with the Democracy." Listed with spouse, Mariah L., and three children, Henry A., Mary E., and Rebecca in 1850 U.S. Census for Bourbon County, KY.
