Samuel MCADOW
First physician in Chillicothe, Ohio. Received classical education at Cokesburg College, MD; studied medicine under Dr. Archer of Maryland and Dr. Rush of Philadelphia. Came to Bourbon County, KY, in 1793. Married sister of the Howes, noted pioneer preachers. Came to view Ross County, OH, in the Fall, 1796, and returned with wife and family in the Spring, 1797. Accompanied George Renick and Nathan Gregg on horseback to Baltimore in 1802 for the purpose of buying drugs and supplies to establish a drug store for Chillicothe. Served as surgeon in War of 1812 with General McArthur's regiment in the Detroit and Malden campaigns; became a prisoner of war at the surrender of Detroit.
