In Genealogies and Biographical Sketches, her father, Stephen Yerkes is described as teaching in Baltimore, Maryland from approximately 1837 to 1851, which indicates Alice Yerkes probably was born in Baltimore. 1860 Census gives place of birth as Maryland.

1860 Census and marriage record in Boyle County Clerk's Office give first name as "Mary." Genealogies and Biographical Sketches, Lexington Cemetery records and gravestone list name as "Alice."
