Isaac DU BOIS
Benjamin received from his father by will, all of the lands owned by Solomon DuBois in Catskill, about 900 acres purchased in 1720 for?300. He subsequently purchased over 500 acres. At the time this was Albany County. "Benjamin DuBois was one of the founders and first elders of the "United Congregation of Catskill and Coxsackie. He aided building of the church at Katsbaan. His initials are cut in a stone in the walls of that building. He was less than average height and weight, but of active and energetic habit." On the DuBois Family Burial Gound at Catskill, a monument placed by F.N. DuBois in 1907 is inscribed as follows: "Beneath these ruged elms that yew trees shade Where heaves the turf in many mouldering heap Each in his narrow cell forever laid The rude forefathers of the hamlet sleep. Far from the maddening crowds ignoble strife Their sober wishes never learned to stray Along the cold sequestered vale of life They kept the noiseless tenor of their way." A carefully written history of the descendants of Benjamin DuBois has been published by the Rev. Anson DuBois.
