Was the first clerk of the Hardy County Court and served about 30 years. It is understood he is buried on the Harry Welton, Jr. farm. He also bought the 600+ acre home place of Peter Casey, who was his step-father. It is also stated in the family traditions that he built the first brick house in Moorefield.
