                   From the War Department Adjutant General's Office, Washington, DC, 6 February 1934. The records of this office show that one James Adair born A. Dare, served in the Revolutionary War, in Captain Cornelius Nieukirk's Company, Colonel John Holmes Battalion of the New Jersey Militia. Neither rank or period of service is shown. His name is first borne on a list dated 20 October 1777 which shows he was in class number 6 and is last borne on a list dated 18 March 1778, which shows James A. Dair to cash at Sweadesburro L.D.S3.D.O. on 20 October 1777 in Cumberland County. He purchased, 1 April 1791, property on Oldman's Creek, between Salem and Gloucester Counties.
James died on 20 November 1791. He was buried circa 22 November 1791 in the Cohansey Baptist Cemetery, Sheppard's Mill, Greenwich, Cumberland Co., NJ. His wife renounced her right of administration 5, December 1791, James died instate, William Brick listed her as Margaret. Charles Ewing Sheppard says two girls deceased by Elizabeth the first wife. William Brick married Rachel Dare, James' sister.
