                   He was born in England and lived in Barnet, NR, London,Middlesexshire,
England, a village some eleven miles north of London. and arrived inAmerica
about 15 October 1650 in the company of William Pynchon ofSpringfield. . He
was then of Boston, Massachusetts.  He was to become ofSpringfield,
Massachusetts in 1654 and was apprenticed to Benjamin Cooley in 1650for
three years to learn the trade of weaving linen.
He was granted ten acres of land on the Chuckappee Plain (alsospelled,
Chickkuppee Plain, etc.) , 07 JAN 1654, on condition that he remain inthe
town for a period of five years; in 1658 he forfeited it be leaving.
In 1663 he was granted some land in Woronoco (which is now Westfield)on the
south side of the river ( I believe that puts his land about in thecenter of
what is now the city itself); also some land at Askknunksuck, by thenorth
side of Agawam River, half way to Worronoco.
In 1664 he was granted some land (seven acres) at Fresh Water Brookwhich is
now in Enfield, Connecticut.
In 1665 he was granted thirty acres of upland, along by his meadowland beyond
Chicopee Plain.
In 1670 he, with others, was assessed two loads of firewood for use oftheir
pastor.
In 1678 he was appointed Surveyor of Highways for the MassachusettsColony
and is described as being well known in Massachusetts in many ways.His name
and that of his son Samuel appear on a list of persons who took theoath of
allegiance 31 DEC 1678 and 01 JAN 1679.
He was chosen Constable of Chicopee in 1693.
He and his second wife Sarah, parted in 1694.
