He took the oath of allegiance to the British in 1689, in Ulster county. (D. H. N. Y., i., 279.) He was known as Major Johannes Wynkoop, freeholder of Kingston, in 1728. (Same, iii., 969.) The same year he was classed with "Old officers and old men in a "List of commanding officers, as well military as civil." (Same 972.) In 1731 he was Sheriff of Ulster county. (Same, i., 694: C. U.
