He was married first at St. Thomas, Elgin Co., Ont. on 26 Jan 1831 to Sarah Stafford of Southwold. She was born in Ontario about 1809 and died South Norwich Twp., 11 Nov 1853, in her 41st year. He married second in Norwich, Brock District, Ont., on 26 Feb 1854 to Ruth Bluet (or Ruth Wood Blewett) of Middleton, Ont. She was born Ontario about 1815 or 1817 and died after 12 Jan 1891. Widow Ruth Harris and son Clesson were enumerated in the 1891 census of South Norwich Twp. Ely and first wife Sarah are burried in Harris Street Cemetery, near Ingersoll. Ely was a farmer in Lot 25, Concession 8 of South Norch Twp., Oxford Co., Ont., and a Methodist. The will of Ely Harris of Otterville, dated 1 Jan 1890 and probated 3 Feb 1891, names sons Daniel of Howick, Huron Co., and John Wesly of South Norwich as executors; and Caleb (?) as well as heirs Edgerton, Ely, Lucy, Almira, and Cossa (Clesson ?). Grandson Wm. Harris (Warren's son) was also mentioned. The estate was to be distributed after the death of his wife (unnamed). The witnesses were David J. Smith and Clessis (?) Harris. As the wishes expressed in his will could not be effected owing to the mode of execution, an aggreement was signed by the heirs 12 Jan 1891: 1. Ruth Harris shall not claim her dower. 2. Clesson Harris; $308.45 notes to Ruth Harris to become part of the estate and to be deducted from Clesson's share. 3. Lucy Smith and Clesson Harris shall share in the distribution as if they had not been disqualified from doing so by reason of David J. Smith and Clesson Harris having been witnesses of the execution of the said will of Ely Harris, deceased. The agreement was signed by Ruth Harris, Daniel Harris, Edgerton Ryerson Harris of Chicago, Merchant, Ely Harris of Chicago, Merchant, Lucy Harris wife of David J. Smith of South Norwich, Almira Johnston wife of William E.
