Notes:
Parker in America: Elija, son of James Parker, married a Miss Stiles. Their children were Patsy, Roxanna, Jerusha, Tabitha, Esther, (Elijah), Stiles and Abigail. Perhaps they have been arranged to rhyme Patsy, Roxy, Rusha, Tabby, Esther. Lija, Stiles and Nabby. (Parker in America, page 458). Elijah next married a Miss Bellknap. They had a son James who settled in Covington, Kentucky, 1817 (ibid.). Town of Springwater: Elijah and Stiles Parker were early settlers in the area known as Springwater, Livingston county, NY. (Town of Springwater, page 55). Compilers comment: Elijah and Stiles were probably brothers, sons of Elijah Parker. On the same Springwater page mention is made of Jonas Belknap, also an early settler of Springwater. Since Jonas Belknap married a sister of these brothers, it seems these men had some influence on each other when it came to picking up stakes and moving on. Census analysis: The census is conducted every ten years beginning in 1790, as required by the United States Constitution. Tracking families is complicated because jurisdictions were constantly changing boundaries in the early years as the population migrated westward. Anothe complication is that prior to 1850 only the head of household was named. From 1790 to 1840, the other occupants were listed by gender and age. This is all further complicated by the fact that the household members could be servants, hired hands, boarders, relatives, etc. Names in parenthsis below can be called the best guess of the compiler. In NY of 1790, Montgomery County took up a large center portion of the state, which later consisted of more that twenty counties including Otsego. 1790, NY, Montgomery County, Canajoharie Town, page 102, Elijah Parker, one male over 16 (Elijah), two males 0-15, one female, any age. Nearby is listed Elijah Parker, Jr. 1800, NY, Otsego County, Worcester Town, page 42; Elijah Parker, one male over age 44, one female over 44. Next door is listed a James Parker, one male 16-25; one female 16-25; one female, 0-9.
