John Scott HARRISON

Benjamin was the 23rd President of the United States. He was also listed as a Lawyer and Publicist.
He served in the military and became a Colonel for the 70th regimen 1861-1865, and a Brigadier General in 1865.
He served as US Senator from 1881-1887 before becomming president in 1889.

Attended school on his father's farm. Graduated from Miami University, at Oxford Ohio 1852; admitted to the bar, 1853, and practiced law in Indianapolis Ind. In the Civil war he rose to the rank of Brigadier General, fought at Kennesaw Mountain, Peachtree Creek, Nashville and the Atlanta campaign. He failed to be elected Governor of Indianana 1876; but became the Senator in 1881. In 1888 he defeated Grover Cleveland for President despite having fewer popular votes. He expanded the pension list, signed the McKinley high tarrif bill, the Sherman Antitrust Act, and the Sherman Silver Purchase Act. During his administration 6 states were admitted to the union. He was defeaed for re-election, 1882. He represented Venezuela in a boundary arbitration with Great Britain in Paris, 1899.
