Joan was betrothed to Hugh de Lusignan. Hugh returned from Crusade, and asked Isabella to marry him. They married without consent of the King's Council, which confiscated her lands and cancelled her pension. Henry III had the pope excommunicate the newlyweds. When the council realised that the marriage had freed Princess Joan of her engagement to Hugh, they stated negotiations to give her to Alexander II of Scotland. Isabella thus recieved her lands and pension back, including back pay. See Note Page Facts about this person: Record Change December 04, 1999
