John was born in Saratov, Russia an d immigrated to Canada as a small boy with his brother Sam and sister Mary. The family homest ead was at Leader, Saskatchewan and it was there that he and Mitilda Heib were married. In th e great depression he and his small family left the dust bowls of Saskatchewan and moved by c overed wagon to Alberta. John was employed at the University of Alberta (Edmonton) for many y ears until he and Tillie retired to Kelowna in 1973. John was an avid fisherman, camper, jac k of all trades and was known as Hiawatha to all his C.B. buddies. He was predeceased by hi s wife Tillie in 1988 and is survived by his daughter Dolores (Robert) Parsons of Arnprior On tario; son Gordon (June) of Kelowna and Morris (Sandy) of Topley Landing BC. Gramps will be v ery missed by his 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Graveside Services will be hel d at Kelowna Memorial Cemetery on John's 93rd birthday, Friday, October 18th at 1:30 p.m. Res t in Peace Dad Edmonton Journal, Area Code 780

SCHAEFFER, John 1909 - 2002 Passed away peacefully on October 14th, 2002 at Sutherland Hill s Rest Home, Kelowna, BC.
