Notes:
David was the fifth son of his parents. He was described as afrontiersman, raconteur and Congressman from Tennessee to the United States House of Representatives. He served as both a Sargeant and then later as aColonel in the Tennessee Militia. He is described as having been, born on the banks of the NolichuckeyRiver, near the mouth of Limestone Creek, Tennessee. It is located about 31/2 miles off Highway 11E, near Limestone, Tennessee (Tennessee StatePark). He is also described as having reared his (step-children) as hisown. There are two stories about his death, one is that he died during thesiege, the other was that David Crockett actually survived the Battle of theAlamo wherein he was captured, along with 5 others, following the battle andwas summarily executed, with them, by Mexican troops under the orders of Generalisimo Santa Anna. My resources appear to favor the secondscenario, in that he was executed.(JFN,1997) His body was cremated on a huge funeral pyre, along with the bodies ofthe other Defenders of the Alamo.
