Obituary, Gainesville Texas, September, 1924:     wife of Abraham VanMeter, former pioneer citizen of the Spring Creek community, 10 miles southwest of Gainesville, died Thursday, September 11, 1924 in Lordsburg, New Mexico, funeral held Sunday, September 14, 1924 at 3:00 p.m. in the Spring Creek church, Rev. E. V. Cole, pastor of the Denton Street Methodist Church officiating; born in Kentucky, September 13, 1839; moved in 1876 to Cooke County, Texas, settling near Era; in spring, 1908, moved to New Mexico; "While a resident of this county, Mrs. VanMeter lived a useful and sacrificial life and the community in which she lived was greatly blessed by her presence.
