Heinrich Frey of Mülheim a/Ruhr was one of the first Germans to come to Pennsylvania and a precursor to the subsequent Germans that came from the same region of Germany. He came to Pennsylvania about 1675-1680. He wrote his father from New York and received a letter from his father in Feb 1681.

This Frey is not related to me although I am connected to another Frey line. I came across this in the library while searching for another line. There is too much information for me to post so I will post some information but here is where I found it: In a book, "Palatine Families of New York" Volume 1...my library # 929-3747 JONES.In his article "New Light on Frey Family History: in the N.Y. Genealogical & Biographical Record (Vol.108, No. 3), Wayne Lenig corrects the long-held TRADITION of Henrich Frey arriving in America in 1688 by means of a document dated 14 Dec. 1708 which Frey probably brought with him to America in 1710. It stated that Johann Henderick Frey was born 14 Oct 1680 in the village of Ermelstadt, district of Regensdorf, Canton Zurich, Switzerland; he continued to live in the vicinity of Zurich during his youth and was trained as a carpenter. Sometime previous to 1708 he moved to Gruenstadt in the Dukedom of Dormstadt, part of the Rheinish Palatinate.

   The actual origins of the American settler were at 6718 Grunstadt (25 KM. W. of Manheim: Chbks. begin 1588, Luth.) and 6741 Essingen (30km.sw. of Mannheim: chbks. begin 1704 Luth.) Joh. Hendrik Frei, his wife, and 2 ch. were in the 2nd party in Holland in 1709 (Rotterdam Lists). Henrich Frey aged 27, his wife, a daughter aged 1/2, Ref; carpenter, were in the 2nd arrivals in ENGLAND in 1709 (London Lists)It goes on and on...............and then it goes on: Heinrich Frey and his wife maria Margaretha with 1 child were at Neu Quunsberg ca. 1716-17 (simmendinger Register). Hendrick Frey was a patentee in 1723 (Stone Arabia patent). Harme Van Slyck of Schenectady deeded land to Hendrick FRY of Stone Arabia in 1728 (Albany Co. Deeds: vol. 6, p. 169).
