Two of David's known brothers, Samuel Sr (1663- 1729) and Jeffrey moved to Philadelphia about 1700. Another brother was Jonathan. Their sister, Hannah Wainwright (d 1718), married Upton miller George Ward in 1697.

Jeffrey Wainwright (1642-1689) came to America from Bermuda
probably sometime after New Jersey was restored to England in 1674
following the Dutch war. West New Jersey was established as a Quaker
settlement in 1676. Jeffrey may have left Bermuda and come to New
Jersey because he had become a Quaker. His profession in America is
listed as shoemaker. He died at Woodbury Creek just across the Deleware River from Philadelphia.

He was the first of the Wainwrights to America. He came to Philadelphia from a rather prominent family in Bermuda and worked as a shoemaker. He is somewhat of a mystery as no one is sure whether he had to leave Bermuda because he was a Quaker or if he became a Qyuaker after he got to Philadelphia.

Since you are now in New Jersey remember if you are ever in Trenton you should visit the State Archives at 185 W. State St. and look up the estate records of Jeffrey Wainwright (d about 1688). Presumably it's in the unrecorded will book #7 pg. 359-364. I am still looking for proof that Jeffrey had a younger son named Samuel (our ancestor). I can't get a readable copy from the microfilm record and they refuse to photograph the original. While you are at it look for the will of Samuel's older brother Jonathan (probably born in the1660s in Bermuda) to see if he mentions Samuel.

David and Charity Wainwright had no children. David's Will (NJ 69-H), which cites him as a yeoman and Charity as sole heiress and executrix. The will, gives to his "beloved wife ye use of my plantation & house & houses & all other privileges belonging to ye sd plantation that is which I now live". After her death, the will states that the estate was to go to David's cousin Samuel Wainwright of Philadelphia. The inventory of the estate, which was signed by Charity's father and their neighbor John Roe details their estate belongs, from pewter ware to oxen to planks. David's 1720 tombstone is in the old Wallings-Powell graveyard on Landing Road.
