The author of Walter May Throop of the Throop Tree 1971 claimes aftermuch research that William Throop is actually named Adrian Scroope theson of Co. Adriane Scroope whi was a regicide. The Col. was executed andWilliam fled to the colonies. William was an assemblyman, Selectman,Highway surveyor and Grand juryman in Rhode Island. He arrived ther saysthe Chapman Genealogy in 1640 when the family packed up the ox(from MA)and went to Bristol, RI. From the Bristol County Records of Deeds, Vol. 2, page 224, it is seen that for $250, New En gland money, John Rogers sold his dwelling house, barn and shop, lands, etc., at Bristol, t o William Throop and Ralph Chapman, 21 June, 1697, and on page 226, that for 8:12 silver, Ral ph Chapman, with consent of Mary, his now wife, conveyed his share of the purchase to "Willia m Throope of Bristol, yeoman." The same was conveyed by William and Mary Throope by deed o f gift 9 Jan., 1698-9, to son Dan. Same records, Vol 3, pg 20. He joined the church in Lebanon, 18 Dec., 1726; his wife Deborah (Gray), 11 Sept., 1 726. In additon to children named above, the Bristol church records five: Alary (twin), b. 1 4 Oct., d. 16 Oct., 1698; and Dan, b. 24 June, 1704; d. y.? Submit was batized at Bristol, 2 9 Dec, 1706, and Deborah, 29 March 1702.His will was dated 27 March 1729, and probated 19 Dec 1737. It names wife Deborah, son s Dan, Joseph, daughters Dorcas, Deborah, Submit; children of deceased son Samuel, viz.: Mary , Samuel, and Marcy; and brother William Throop. [Record Book 2, p. 61]His epitaph in the oldest cemetary in Lebanon is as follows: "Here lies the body of Mr . Dan throope, who, while he lived, discovered a very serious, generous and public spirit, an d after a useful life, departed in ye comfortable hope of a better, thro ye mercy of you Lor d Jesus, Dec. 9, 1737, in ye 67th year of his age."
