He was matriculated at the University of Oxford, Nov 2, 1621, and is then described as e ighteen, and as from Somersetshire. He received the degree of B.A. at Oxford, Feb 21, 1624-5 . About 1638 he was settled at Taunton in the Plymouth Colony, now in Massachusetts, as Coll eague with Rev. William Hooke. Leachford (Plain Dealing, pg 96) says, that Mr. Street was or dained Teacher of the Church by Master Hooke, assisted by Bishop, a schoolmaster, and one Par ker a husbandman.Mr. Street followed Mr. Hooke to New Haven, where he took the latter's place as colleagu e of Rev. John Davenport, Sept 26, 1659. After Mr. Davenport was called to Boston, Sep 27, 1 667, he had sole charge of the First Church till his own death, April 22, 1674. (NEHG Reg V ol 44, pg 183-4)There has been a number of Street men who were ministers. The Street Genealogy (1895 editio n) by Henry A. Street & Mary A. Street contains information about Rev. Nicholas Street born 1 603 in Bridgewater, England. He was educated at Oxford. When he was a boy the Puritan elem ent had grown stronger and bolder. James Stuart had ascended the throne, and Puritanism, sca rcely tolerated under Queen Elizabeth, was to be stamped and harried out of England. Only th e year before Nicholas entered college the Mayflower had brought her colonists to Plymouth . Somewhere between 1630 and 1638 Nicholas also came to American, most likely due to his Pur itan views.
