The Subject of this sketch was born in Genisee County, New York, November 5th, 1832. He was brought by his father to the farm on which he died when but a child of five years, where he lived throughout his life. When the elder Carvey located here the country the country was a primitive forest and like all pioneers, who livedin this section had to clear a place in the forest for his log cabin, whichhe erected on the old Indian trail which ran from the northeast to southwestfrom the little village three miles north-east of his cabin home. When Mr. Carvey was but of eight years of age his father died leaving a widowed mother and four children to struggle for an existence in a new country. At an earlyage Mr. Carvey acquired those studious habits and knowledge of the bible which made him a power for good in the church of his choice and in the community at large. During his sickness he often spoke of that beautiful hymn which he used to sing years ago. "Oh Bear Me Away On Your Snowy Wings to my Immortal Home". In 1873 Mr Carvey made with his own hands the brick which entered into the construction of the Christian Church.
