A brief Autobiography written by Alice Agnes to Catherine Ina (Griffor)e Wintch on 20 Oct 1960: My father did all the woodwork finishing in the McGraw building, one of the 1st towering buildings in Detroit. In 1904 I worked at age 14 for William McGraw, son of owner of the huge beautiful building to earn business college money, he showed great interest in me, I collected his rents which sometimes ran up in the $2,100.00/month; did his stenographic work, bookeeping, etc gaining a very broad knowledbe which was helpful later in gaining prestige and making possible the wonderufl position I had with the Michigan Central Railroad now the New York Central, as they consolidated in 1930, the uear I resigned to travel the country with my husband, as he was adjuster for the AAA until retirement in 1948. He was sent to Alpena as the first adjuster here as theirbranch growing so rapidly made it necessary. He always fished and hunted up here before, so he was chosen for this post as bding qualified adjuster and be in a place he liked to retire in, so if you ever have a chance to come we have lots of room. Just let me know when and how many, we have 3 cabins also and apartment that accomodates 4 which I have been renting during summer months and known as the "Comfy Cabin" business my 14th year. It worked a hardship on me this year for the 1sttime since I hit the 70th year and may have to give it up, perfectly well just slowing up, we are both in good health and making special effort to keep that way.
