Burton - Nephi - Mrs. Mary Eleanor Pass Burton 82, died at the family home here Monday from old age. She was born 6 August1849, in Stockport, Lancastershire, England. She left England with her family on May 23, 1863 and landed in New York City on July 10 that year. They came west to Florence, Nebraska, and thence to Salt Lake, arriving September 25, 1863. A week later they came here, where Mrs. Burton had since resided. She was married to Herbert Burton on October 11, 1868, in the Endowment House in Salt Lake. Nine sons and daughters survive: William, J.A. and John H. Burton, Nephi: Mrs. Mary Eleanor Hague, Mrs. Ada Sparks, Mrs. Ida Hyde and S.P. Burton, Salt Lake: G.L. Burton, Los Angeles; Leonard Burton, Oregon City, Oregon: one brother, Thomas Pass, Salt Lake. Burton Nephi, Sept 6 - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Eleanor Pass Burton were held in the Juab Stake Tabernacle Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Burton, one of the best known pioneer residents of this city, died at her home here Monday from infirmities incident to old age. Mrs. Burton was born in Stockport, Lancashire, England, August 6, 1849. She left England with her family in 1863 and landed in New York, July 10. They came to Utah in Peter Nebeker's company, which arrived in Salt Lake. A week later they c ame to Nephi, where Mrs. Burton had resided. She was known deuring her life for her work among the sick. She was the mother of 14 children, nine of whom survive her, as follows: William, J.A. and John H. Burton of Nephi; Mrs. Victor Hague, Mrs. Rex Hyde, Mrs. Ada Sparks and S.P. Burton of Salt Lake; G.L. Burton, Los Angeles; Leonard Burton, Oregon City, Oregon; one brother, Thomas Pass, of Salt Lake, also survives. «b»Obituary - The Times-News, Nephi, Juab, Utah - Thursday, 3 September 1931 Volume15, Number 36 Pioneer Woman Dies Monday At Age of 82 Years «/b»Loyal and loving tributes were paid by speakers to Mrs. Mary Elinor Pass Burton, 82, who died at the family residence at 4 AM Monday morning from disabilities incident to old age, at funeral services conducted in the Stake Tabernacle today, (Thursday). The speakers for the services included Joseph Greenhalgh, James H. Ockey, President A. H. Belliston, and Bishop P.B. Cowan. The invocation and benediction were offered by James D. Pexton and J. E. Memmott. The musical program follows: vocal duet, Mrs. Mabel Lunt and LeRoy Whitehead; vocal solos, Miss Evelyn Brough, accompanied by Wallace L. Martin; selection quartet, composed of Clarence Warner, Mrs. Robert Winn, Mrs. A.J. Crapo and LeRoy Whitehead, accompanied by Mrs. Diane G. Booth. Bishop P.B. Cowan was in charge of the services. The floral offerings were beautiful and profuse. Interment was in the Vine Bluff Cemetery, where the grave was dedicated by Bishop Thomas Dalley. Mrs. Burton was born 6 August 1849 in Stockport, Lancastershire, England. She left England with her family on 23 May 1863 and landed in New York on 10 July, taking eighteen days to cross the ocean. They traveled in cattle cars from New York, to Florence, Nebraska, and thence to Salt Lake City in Peter Nebeker's Company , arriving 25 September 1863. a week later they came to Nephi with ox teams where she had since resided. She suffered the hardships incident to pioneer life in this community and has been a faithful member of the Latter Day Saints church, taking an active part in Relief Society work. She was married to Herbert Burton on 11 October 1868 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake city by George Q. Cannon. Fourteen children were born to the couple of which nine surve; William, J.A. and John H. Burton, Nephi; Mrs. Mary E. Hague, Mrs. Ada Sparks, Mrs. Ida Hyde and S.P. Burton, Salt Lake; G.L.
