George Blackett was born March 27, 1830 at Sunderland, Durham, England was the son of Robert Collingwood Blackett and Ellen Mitchell Blackett. He was baptized October 15, 1848 a member of the LDS Church by John Griffen at Woolwich in Kent, England. He married Hannah Smithson July 24, 1854 at Hartlepool, Durham, England. They had one child born at that place, Robert Collingwood, Jr. They left England and came out to this country for the gospel settling at first in Omaha, Nebraska.  Here another child was born, Edward Blackett 1857. In 1861 they moved to Springville, Utah and moved to Fort Alma, now called Monroe in Sevier, Utah. Here they had to live outside the fort in a dugout and while Grandpa Blackett was away working, grandmother stayed alone with her little children. Many tmes she was very frightened with the Indians, but was brave and stayed there to help do her part in making a home for her family. They moved to Nephi on account of the trouble with the Indians and remained there. They had nine children, seven boys and two girls. Grandfather Blackett was ordained a deacon in 1849, a priest in 1853, an elder at the time of them going to the Old Endowment House December 1, 1868, a High Priest October 21, 1903 by J.W. Paxman. He died July 8, 1905 Nephi, Utah.  Grandma Blackett was born June 21, 1835 at Old Hetton, Durham, England, was baptized by Robert Collingwood Blackett, Sr. at Hartlepool, Durham, England, September 17, 1850. Died Friday, September 1, 1916 at Nephi. Buried September 3, 1916.

«/b»States of Utah, County of Juab - Israel Bale aged 74 years, residing at Nephi, Juab County, Utah and James M. McPherson aged 78 years, residing at Nephi, Juab County, Utah, being first duly sworn, on oath, each for himself says:
I was personally acquainted with George Blackett during all the dates herein mentioned, and that I know of my own personal knowledge that he was enrolled in a Company of Infantry commanded by Major Peter Oldroyd on or about the 10th day of April 1865 at Monroe, Sevier County, Utah, and that he was in constant service with said organization for 205 days as Home Guard at Monroe, Utah, said service ending on the 1st day of November 1865; also servied in a Company of Infantry commanded by Major Peter Oldroyd as Home Gard at Monroe, Utah, commencing on the 1st day of April 1866, and ending on the 1st day of November 1866. . . and was honorably released from said service on the 1st day of November 1866.  We further state that the dates of service above given are correctly given, and that the dates of the engagements and duties above stated are stated from our own personal knowledge, and that they are correct to the best of our recollection and belief, and that the service rendered by George Blackett as above stated, was honest and faithful. That on the 10th day of April 1865, George Blackett was enrolled in a Company of Infantry, commanded by Major Peter Oldroyd; that at said time he was a resident of Monroe, Sevier County, Utah, and of the age of 35 years, and served with said organization for 205 days as Home Guard at Monroe, Utah; said service ending on the 1sst day of November 1865; also served in a Company of Infantry commanded by Major Peter Oldroyd, from the 1st day of April 1866 and served with said last name organization for a period of 7 months as Home Guard at Monroe, Utah, said service ending on the 1st day of November 1866. . . and was honorably released from service with said command on the 1st day of November 1866.  That as witnesses of the foregoing service, I name the following persons who served with him in Company Infantry under Major Peter Oldroyd:  Israel Bale and James McPherson.  I further state that to the best of my knowledge and information said service was continuous between the dates mentioned and that said George Blackett was constantly with said command unless temporarily absent on proper leave, and that the dates of service above given are correctly given, and the dates of the engagements and duties above stated are true and correct to the best of my information and knowledge, which is derived from communications made to me by said deceased during his lifetime. «/b»Robert C. Blackett, 76, retired merchant, died at his home 1235 South Eleventh West Street, Tuesdays at 7:30 AM of a heart attack following a lingering illness.  He was born in England 18 April 1856, a son of George and Hannah Smithson Blackett, and had lived here for the last 30 years.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lena Schroder Blackett of Salt Lake; two sons, LeRoy Blackett of Nephi and Leiland B. Blackett of Summitt Point, San Juan County; four brothers, Andrew and John W. Blackett of Nephi; Eugene Blackett of Eureka and Lawrence Blackett of Rochester, NY; two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Schofield and Miss Lillian Blackett of Nephi, and seven grandchildren.
