John STOCK
History of Bear Lake Pioneers, pg 788
A FGS found in file provides sealing date to Susan Mary Thompson; 8 Jan 1905, which was done as described below after John Stock's death. The file also gives DOB of Mary as 19 May 1824, Ramsgate, Kent, England. (comment by FJR Oct 18, 2002) NOTE: Ord work has been done several times. 1993: FGS (Ephraim Stock's Gen Book) found this note: Susan Mary Thompson was sealed to John Stock at the instance of J. W. Edwin Stock, Jun. 8, 1905- Louisa E. Stock, proxy (record of John Wm Edwin Stock). Birth Place: Recorded differently on some FGS. Such as: Cape of Good Hope;Bathurst, Cape Colony; Near Grahamstown, Cape Colony all in South Africa. Bathurst is near Grahamstown and both are in the Cape Colony province of SouthAfrica. ** Marriage Date: TIB file and as a result some FGS record John Stock and JaneAdams marriage date as occuring in 1842. This is in error. The Adams family left England and while on the ocean to South Africa Jane had a baby (illegitemate-it is reported that she had been engaged to a Mr. Dewey/ Newey). This child, Mary Ann was born 27 Sep 1842. It is therefore impossible for Jane and John to have been married in Feb 1842. [A note found in J-Stock file gave Marriage date as March 4, 1844 with a note to check- no resolution indicated.][Annie Jane Cottle Stock's Journal- has marriage: 13 Feb 1944. [Mary Ann is regarded by all to be part of John Stock/Jane Adams family andshe is shown as the first child on many FGS; however, in this record she is shown on a seperate FGS with her mother - technically this is the correct way to show Mary Ann. Mary Ann is sealed to John Stock and Jane.] 14 Feb 1855, Baptized by Leonard P. Smith (South Africa). 14 Feb 1855, Confirmed by Leonard P. Died at John Stock's saw mill in Logan Canyon. DATA PROBLEM: Marr date: FGS in family file have 14 Jun 1881 while Ancestral file has 16 Jun. Annie Jane Cottle Stock's Journal repeats 14 Jun 1881. In cheking IGI bothdates appear. I accept Annie J Cottles date as correct. In the early days ofthe Church some couples were married prior to traveling long distances to be sealed. There also was no ruling to wait a year after a civil marriage., However,if this occured the marriage propably took place in Idaho before they traveled to Logan. As the place of marriage is in question none was identified ---FJR There is also a question on death date. Family file had 30 Oct 1886 while othere records give 31 Oct. Kept family file record--FJR

COMMENT: During my looking I found a baptism date of 15 Jun 1860 and at this time, Jan 2005, I do not recall where it came from. Family file had 1860 but I changed the date---but no one else in the family, or IGI confirmed this date and so I have reverted back to "1860". It should also be noted that the baptism wasredone on 30 Nov 1967, probably to obtain a complete date which I have only noted here but not included it. Date came from IGI---FJR

NOTE: There is an error in IGI- Birth listed as 20 Sep 1875. This is not correct. FGS in family file submitted prior to 1940 list date as 4 Jan1861. This date is listed on FGS. However, a FGS in family file has 20Sep 1875 as the bapt. date. Changed spelling of Ephriam to "Ephraim" to agree with the spelling that Ephraim spelled his name.

NOTE: Baptized by Wm Budge They lived in Afton, Wyo. ***ANCESTRAL FILE PROBLEM: Ancestral File has Endowment & Marriage as 22 Jun 1882- this is in error. However, some FGS in family file also have this date. Annie J. Stock's Journal provided a death date of 13 Mar 1895, and originally I thought this was more correct but FGS obtained from AF and family gave date of birth of last child as 1903 which made Annie's date impossible. 10Nov 1927 date from AF and Ferron Stock and so that date was used.
