April 4, 1935 Mr James Richards was born in Cornwall, England, March 22, 1844, and died at his home in Mineral Point early Thursday morning, March 28 at the age of 91 years and six days. He was brought to Mineral Point by his parents in 1847 and lived here practically all his life. On June 3, 1863 he was married to Miss Matilda Bennalack to which union twelve children were born, four of whom with the mother preceeded Mr. Richards to the great beyond. There are eight children living to mourn the loss of Father. Curtis of Mineral Point, Henry of Deer Lodge, Montana, Jenny(Mrs James Whitford) of Freeport, Clara (Mrs Wm. Argall) of Mineral Point, Ella (Mrs Thomas Walters) of Tacoma, Washington, Bertha (Mrs Charles Francois) of Medford, Frank of Platteville and Pearl (Mrs Gilbert Gorgen)of Fennimore. Mr Richards was one of the grand old men of Mineral Point, one who all his life has been a good citizen, kindly in disposition, retiring by nature, yet never backward in standing for the right in public affairs. He was a good neighbor, a helpful friend, a thoughful husband and an indulgent father. He lived a good clean life and beyond the full measure of his days. As the years were prolonged, his physical health gradually weakened until he retired on the evening of Wednesday, Mar 27, and quietly fell asleep to awaken in eternity. Mr. Richards spent the past winter at the home of his daughter, Mrs Gorgen in Fennimore, and returned here on March 19th, less than two weeks prior to his passing. The funeral serices were held from the home on Monoday afternoon, when Rev. C.E. Burdon officiated, the remains being laid reverently to rest at the Graceland Cemetery. All of the surviving children were here for the funeral except Henry of Deer Lodge, Montana.
