Obit of Robert John Quick
The name of "Robert Quick" has been synonymous with Mineral Point history
for over 140 years.
Robert Quick ca. 1826-1877 came to Mineral Point from England about 1849
with his first wife, Elizabeth. They had no children of their own, but had
raised three orphaned children (their nieces and nephew), Elizabeth J. and
Walter Oke, and Cora E Prisk. (Have copy of Cora's marr. in R.Quick file)
When his first wife died at only 48 years old, leaving Robert with very
young children he married Mariette Austin of Chagrin Falls, Ohio in 1871. They
had three children of their own: Robert Henry, Florence (Mrs Gus Torgeson) and
Thomas Samuel.
Robert died in 1877, leaving Mariette with the three small babies. She
married Henry Roether in 1884 who helped raise her children. They had one
child, Leonard, who died at age 4.

This is part of an obit for Robert John Quick who was a son of Robert Henry
Quick written by Edie Davis-Mooney from Fort Worth, Texas and published in a
newspaper in Mineral Point. Copied by Robin Bobeck and a copy was sent to me.

Obit: Deaths: Since the Tribune's appearance last week, Mrs Robert Quick, one
of the most esteemed farmers of the town of Mineral Point, has departed for the

Mrs Marietta Roether passed from this life Dec 5th, 1917 and her remains
were laid to rest in Graceland last Friday afternoon, after services at the
home of her daughter, conducted by Rev. W.G.C. Bohd.
She was born in Chagrin Falls, Cuyhoga Co., Ohio Dec. 16, 1844 being
therefore nearly 73 years of age at the time of her death.
She was united in marriage to Robert Quick and came to Mineral Point from
Ohio Jan. 11, 1871 and afterward resided for many years on their farm a few
miles from this city.
Of this union there were three surviving children, Henry and Thomas, and a
daughter, Mrs Gus Torgeson. Three brothers and two sisters also remain. viz:
Edward and Frank Austin of Mineral Point, Charles of Atlanta, Mich., Mrs Sarah
Osborne, Kewadin, Mich and Mrs S.O. Rogers of Stickney, S. Dak.
After the death of her husband Mrs Quick remained a widow for several years,
when she was married twenty four years ago last October to Henry Roether who
died in the year 1907. Since that time she has lived with her children
spending the last four years with her daughter, Mrs Torgeson in this city.

This reference to a sister Mrs. S.O. Rogers must be Eliza Viola or Mrs T.V.
Rogers. Sarah and Eliza would have both been alive when Mariette died.

Obit:
Robert Henry Quick, a son of Mr and Mrs Robert Quick, was born on December 3,
1872 and was released into that larger home, not made with hands, Saturday
morning, August 10, 1935 at his home in this city.
Mr. Quick was engaged in framing for some time and was united in marriage with
Miss Mary Williams, also of Mineral Point, on February 11, 1903. Three
children graced this home, Avia (Mrs Charles Dais), Alden and Robert who with
their mother now remain to mourn the loss of a devoted father and husband.
Eighteen years ago Mr and Mrs Quick moved to there home in this city, where
Mr. Quick has been engaged in the ice business. He was a member of the Mineral
Point Lodge of Odd Fellows. Besides his immediate family Mr Quick is survived
by a sister, Mrs Guy Torguson, of this city, and a brother Thomas of Beloit.
There are also three grandchildren.
Everyone will agree that Mr. Quick was the kind of man that you could
honestly call a good citizenm this in part was born out in the unusually large
number of friends present at the services. Each person's misfortune awakened
in him a serious concern and his life continually brought out the theme of
helpfulness to others. This practical minded sympathy often prompted in others
a like attitude, thus causing the organ of society to respond with greater
harmony. The children, the overburdened, the unfortunate all caught this
spirit from him and found gleams of happiness through it.
His sudden illness and departure came as a shock to all. During the long
hours of the day and night his family sought to bring him every relief possible
by their loving ministry. We have lost a good citizen and understanding
father, and a real friend to all.
Services were held from the home Monday afternoon, Rev. LeRoy Norris
Fielding, pastor of the Congregational church was the officiating clergyman.
Mrs Eunice Kelley and Mrs George Hill sang comforting selections. Burial was
made in Graceland cemetery.
