                   NOTES:
    1. Manuel came to America after World War l. He had traveld to New York several times as well as San Francisco. He thought San Francisco's climate would agree with his wife better.
After the 1906 earthquake there were more job opportunities. In 1918 Manuel traveled alone to San Francisco. He rented a furnished apartment on Filbert Street. He quickly landed a job working for one of the railroads. In the fall of 1918 he sent for his family. They sailed by steamship to Havana, then on to New York where they were "processed" at Ellis Island.
    2. Leonor remembers a cousin named Antonio Dalmau who begged to come with them. He had polio as a child so when they got to Ellis Island they wouldn't allow him into the United States and they sent him back. Along with the trunk of Aquilina's that contained a few of Antonio's things. They lost a lot of family mementos they never saw again. They traveld by train in the cold of December to San Francisco.
    3. Manuel was very much for education and having them all learn English. He himself went into engineering. He aslo had the children learn a musical insturment. Instilling in them a love for music.
    4. At the time of the 1910 Census, Manuel was living in the household of his sister, Francisca Feijeiro, age 36. His brother, Jose Garcia, age 58, was also living in this household; working as a marine fireman.
    5. The 1920 Census indicates that Manuel came to the United States in 1902, and that his family came in 1917. He was also listed as a stationary fireman with a gas company.
    6. At the time of Manuel's draft registration in Sep 1918, Manuel was living with his wife, Aquilina, at 542B Filbert, San Francisco, California.
