                   Member of the Mormon Battalion. Arrived in Salt LakeCity on 1 Oct 1848. Also was a member of the Nauvoo Legion (Utah'sstate militia), rising in the ranks from private to captain, commandinghis own company in 1857. On 6 Oct 1861, at General Conference, Jacob wascalled to help settle Utah's Dixie.
