HUNKINS -- Theodore Roosevelt Hunkins, a resident of Rio Rancho for 28 years, passed away at his home on Monday, December 18, 2006, at the age of 89, surrounded by his children. "Ted" was born on April 15, 1917, the son of Lewis D. and Adelaide Belle Hunkins in Battle Creek, MI. His wife, Alyce Claire preceded him in death in 1985. They were married May 16, 1943. He is survived by daughters, Martha Hunkins, Leslie Doran; and son, Robert Hunkins; and his three granddaughters; two grandsons; five great-grandsons; and a new great-granddaughter, whom he met just hours before his passing. Theodore attended Western Michigan University and graduated in 1940 with a B.A. in Economics and minor in History. Theodore served as a Corporal in the United States Army from January to December of 1943. He also served as a Sergeant in the Michigan National Guard from 1948 to 1949. He served on the Alumni Board of Directors for Western Michigan Alumni Association from 1987 to 1991. He was a great fan of the University of Michigan football team. Go Blue He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge #12 in Battle Creek, MI. Theodore spent the majority of his working career as a Special Agent for the Internal Revenue Service. He then became a deputy sheriff in Rockingham County, NH. When he moved to New Mexico he became an investigator for the Albuquerque District Attorney's Office. Theodore retired in 1983. He was a member of the Association of Former Special Agents of the IRS. Cremation has occurred and Theodore and Alyce will be interred together in June at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango, CO.
