NATHAN RHODES:

Nathan Rhodes/Rood/Rude was born about 1742 or earlier and was in Dutchess County, New York in the 1770s and in Granville, Washington, New York in the 1790s. The Washington County History calls him Nathan Rhodes of Rhode Island but possibly he is of the Preston, Connecticut family of Rhodes. Some conclude that he is the son of Nathan Rhodes of Preston, born 1718 who married Mary Tracy, but evidence is needed.
Rebecca and Nathan Jr. said they were born in Danbury, Dutchess, New York. They mentioned Uncle Simeon and Aunt Huldah Rhodes, possibly related to the Simeon and David Rood of Bennington, Vermont.
Nathan was in Granville by 1787, admitted to the Truthville Baptist Church. Nathan married Phebe (seek last name, possibly Stewart or Sanford.)

Family records of Hazel Hayes Indermuhle, 411 Pearl St., Ellensburg, Wash.
(She went to the cemeteries where Abigail (Jonathan's first wife) was buried and where Jonathan & his second wife, Margaret and others were buried.)

Jonathan Hayes Sr. was a Revolutionary War soldier. In 1811 his family moved to Plattsburgh, Clinton Co., NY where Jonathan Jr. was born.
About 1815 the younger Jonathan went to Lake George (could have been any of the towns along the lake) and engaged in lumbering work. Since he was quite young at the time it an be assumed he went to his two brothers who could have stopped there for work when the family moved to Plattsburge, for by then they could have been living with a family of their own, as they were listed as under 16 on Jonathan Sr.'s 1790 census report.
Howard went up into Canada as a young man, no further data on him. In the records of the North Granville Church it lists a Phebe Hayes as a member in 1787 (perhaps Jonathan's wife,) admitted in 1803 a Phebe Hayes, in 1806 an Anne Hayes and an Amos Hayes dismissed to Plattsburgh, NY. these last three named could well be the children of Jonathan Sr. and his wife, Phebe.
