   King Phillip's (an Indian) War, which began in June 1675 and lasted for a year, cost the colonists about 600 lives, 600 buildings burned and 13 towns destroyed.  The money cost was estimated at $1,000,000.  Among those who advanced money to sustain it from Rehoboth were the following:
       Joseph Buckland  6 pounds 3s 0d
       William Buckland  2 pounds 9s 0d
       Benjamin Buckland  4 pounds 3s 10d
       And this was not all the Buckland family contributed, for Benjamin was slain on 26 March 1676 with eight others, at a place called "Nine Men's Misery."

From the Original Rehoboth Vital Records:

       William Buckland died in Rehoboth and was buried ther 1 Sept. 1683.
       Mary Bucklin, a widow, buried in Rehoboth, 29 Jul 1687.
       Joseph Buckland married 5 Nov 1659, Deborah Allen, died in Rehoboth, 26 March 1718.

       Benjamin Buckland, bapt. Hingham, Mass. July 2, 1640, md. Rachel Wheatland.  Slain by Indians at Nine Men's Misery, 26 Mar. 1676.
Joseph d. 1718 buried Rehoboth.  Tombstone states he was 84 yrs. 9 mos. 3 days old (born in England.)

3 ly - I doe promise that after me and my wifes decease that the said Joseph shall have and enjoy so much more land upland and meddow as shall make up the full halfe of what I doe now possesse in Rehoboth.
