Anna's husband, Nathan Rhodes was a physician for over 40 years in Dresden. He doctored up and down Lake Champlain, using a canoe in summer and snowshoes in winter. After his death, his second wife, Anna carried on his practice and care of the ill of Dresden. She was always ready to go at a moment's notice, day or night to anyone who was ill.
Anna was called "Granny" by all the surrounding countryside and when she was 100 years years old all the neighborhood gathered to honor her. That day she spun what was considered a good day's work for a strong young spinner - 6 skeins. It was estimated that to do it, a spinner must walk the equivalent of 20 miles.
She never wore glasses and a great-granddaughter said her stitches were so tiny and neat. Another great-granddaughter, Alzora Tracy Stiles said she never walked, but always went on a trot. When Alzora was 16 in 1874, Granny beat her in a foot race.
Anna lived until nearly 102 years of age and was buried in the Tracy Cemetery, Dresden, Washington, New York.
