Carl Friedrich August NOERENBERG
REFERENCE: "Autobiography of William Noerenberg, A Short Sketch of My Life", Stanton, Nebraska, February 15, 1937. Friedrich Noerenberg, father of William Noerenberg, was born out of wedlock and his father was Goetz who lived in Kratzig, Hinterpommern, Prussia, Germany. Friedrich Noerenberg married Wilhemine Charlotte Henriette Westphal September 1864, when he was 30 years old, and she was 36. Immigrated to the United States in May 1882. Friedrich Noerenberg was killed by lighting July 30, 1884, while shocking grain on the farm near Ithaca, Nebraska. By Order of His Majesty the King, a keepsake cross for combatants, crafted from conquered cannon bronze, which was established by His Very Highest Authortity, is hereby granted to Soldier Carl Norenberg of the 5th (?) Company of the 2nd (?) Pomeranian Militia, Regiment No. 9, in recognition of his loyal participation in the Campaign of 1866. Presented by the undersigned Pillau, the 18th of June, 1867. Certificate of Rightfull Ownership issued to Soldier Carl Friedrich Norenberg, worker of Bitziker, of the Royal (?) Principality of the 1st (?) Company of the 2nd Battalion (Coslin), 2nd Pomeranian Militia, Regiment No.9, has meritiously qualified to receive this service award, established by His Royal Majesty on January 1st, 1842, and after same has been bestowed, is hereby granted this certificate of righful ownership, Coslin, December 11, 1871. In 1871, the German Empire was formed; prior to that date Germany consisted of a Confederation of States, of which Prussia was one. Rulers of Prussia were King Frederick William IV ruled 1840-1861, then his brother King William I (1797-1888) ruled 1861-1888, being crowned Emperor of Germany in 1871. Then his son Emperor Frederick III (1831-1888) ruled during 1888, the year he died; followed by his son Emperor Kaiser William II (1851-1941) who ruled 1888 - World War I. Friedrich NOERENBERG was buried, with wife Wilhelmine, at Zion Evangelical Church, 2-1/2 miles south and 1/2 mile east of Ithaca, Saunders County, Nebraska; gravestone monument marked "FRIEDRICK NOERENBERG, APR. 25, 1834 - JULY 30, 1884, WILHELMINA, HIS WIFE, DEC 4, 1828 - JUNE 20, 1884, AT REST". William Noerenberg in his autobiography notes Friedrick's birthday as April 21, 1834, instead of April 25, 1834 as inscribed on his gravestone monument. Other public records show Friedrich's birth date as March 27, 1834 and christening March 31, 1834, which are thought to be the correct dates.

Wilhelmina's parents had died before the fall of 1881, and were buried in Varchmein, Hinterpommern, Germany. Wilhelmine worked as a bottle nurse for a family, was held in high esteen by the local officials, spoke high German which enabled her to feel at home in a somewhat elite society. She married when 36 years old. Immigrated with her husband and two sons to the United States 8 May 1882, arriving on the ship HOHENSTAUFFEN from Bremen, Germany to New York. Johann Frederich Wilhelm (William) NOERENBERG, in late April 1882 immigrated from Hinterpommern, Prussia, Germany, via Bremen, Germany, with brother Albert, parents, eight Timms, and two Rexilius, by 15-day boat trip, arriving in Ashland, Nebraska, May 12, 1882; then by horse and wagon the next day to Ithaca, Nebraska. Father, Friedrich NOERENBERG was killed while shocking grain in a field on July 30, 1884. William and Albert worked as farm hands, and then farmed their land near Ithaca. William entered the ministry in 1888, and had preaching stations in Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado. He retired from the ministry in Stanton, Nebraska sometime after 1939; moved to Fremont, Nebraska, where he lived with his daughter Emma for some years, and died March 15, 1957 at the age of 91 years. Immigrated to United States 8 May 1882, on the ship HOHENSTAUFFEN from Bremen, Germany to New York.

Albert arrived May 1882 in the United States with brother Johann Fredercih Wilhelm NOERENBERG and parents. After his parents died in 1884, he worked as a farm hand, and then farmed his own land near Ithaca. In the late 1880s, Albert went into the ministry. Family of Ferdinand C. Hanke report, by Elizabeth Kruger, June 1994; on file with Saunders County Historical Society, 240 North Walnut, Wahoo, Nebraska 68066-1858; notes he died June 4, 1900. Immigrated to the United States 8 May 1882 on ship HOHENSTAUFFEN from Bremen, Germany to New York. Tombstone in Zion Evanglical Church cemetery 2-1/2 miles south and 1/2 mile east of Ithaca, Saunders County, Nebraska, is inscribed "SONS OF REV. ALBERT C. & BERTHA, ARTHUR 1891 - 1895, WALTER 1893 - 1895, NOERENBERG". His granddaughter and daughter of Ben NOERENBERG, Beth Moede of Sequin, Texas, informed Maurla White, May 2000, that Albert was just moving to Crofton, Nebraska, got sick on the train, and died June 4, 1900 after only a week at his new church.
