George Stephans Hollis INGALLS
Event: Voter Registration 9 APR 1888 Summersville, Tuolumne County, CA 1 Reference Number: 6118 Note: George's birthplace and date were taken from information supplied to the Tuolumne County Genealogical Society by Charlotte Cordelia Ingalls West, George's granddaughter. [Other information indicates he was born in 1848] This form "Settlers in Mother Lode Counties prior to 1900" also states that his full name was George Stephans Hollis Ingalls. He was a Private in G Company, 8th Regiment of Maine, attached to Horse Battery B, 1st U.S. Artillery during the Civil War. His occupation was shown as a cattle raiser. Also stated is that George was previously married in Maine before coming to California and had two sons: John who came to California as an adult, and Hollis Ingalls Frost (probably his stepfather's name) who stayed in Maine. Hollis' wife was shown as Hattie.
_FA1: Buried in Carter's Cemetary, Row 32, Plot 6, Block 114 1 Reference Number: 5912 Note: Guy worked as a brakeman and died in a logging train accident while working for the Westside Lumber Company in Tuolumne. He was only 29 years old. The State Death Record is #19334.
Note: During the 1920 U.S. Census, which was done in Tuolumne County during the first part of the year, the Guy Ingalls family lived in Tuolumne City on Madrone Street. The census showed that Guy was a brakeman on the railroad, which was the logging train for the Westside Lumber Company. He was killed on the train just a couple of months after this census. Also on this street lived the families of Roy Ingalls, Marvin Gurney [Muriel Powning, Viola's sister], and Frederick Welle [grandparents of Norma Flagg Ingalls].
Note: During the 1920 U.S. Census, which was done in Tuolumne County during the first part of the year, the Roy Ingalls family lived in Tuolumne City on Madrone Street. The census showed that Roy was a butcher for the local meat market. Also on this street lived the families of Guy Ingalls [his brother], Marvin Gurney [Muriel Powning], and Frederick Welle.
He married Cordelia Frances Duckwall 2 Dec 1877 at 1st Township, Tuolumne, California . Cordelia Frances Duckwall was born at Tuolumne, California Jul 1856 daughter of William Jesse Duckwall and Susannah R. Hill .
