    John Christopher born in Virginia; in 1798 with a younger brother he migrated to Kentucky, walking the entire distance over the Wilderness Road. The parents of these brothers died when they were quite young and they were reared by maternal grandparents named Betts. John served in War of 1812 as Capt. of Kentucky Volunteer Mounted Riflemen - distinguished himself in Battle of the Thames in the Detroit area. Governor Slaughter of Kentucky made him Colonel of 11th Regiment of Kentucky Militia.
