    1. Gordon was a native of Virginia.  He and wife Margaret McIntyre Gill moved to Quincy Missouri about 1835, where he established a ferry, and occupied himself as a Ferryman. He died there in 1841

                   NOTES:
    1.  Margaret came with her parents when quite young to Ohio.  They settled in Meigs County. She married Gordon and settled in Wood County West Virginia. They lost everything  in the flood of 1832. Moved to Missouri  where Gordon died. She was left with very limited means to raise her three children. She moved to California in 1863.  She was baptized in the Christian Church in September.

James William Gill was born august 20, 1831 in wood County, West Virginia.  His Father, Gordon Gill was a native of Virginia. His Mother was born in Pennsylvania,Margaret MCIntyre. At the age of 4 years his father came to Quincy Illinois, he established a ferry there and died there May 6 1841.
In 1854 he came to California, crossed the plains with ox team.
James William Gill left Quincy Missouri in April 1854 crossing the plains with an ox team..  The Indians tried to run  off their cattle and horses but were not otherwise molested. He teamed from Sacramento and Marysville until  1857 camping on the American River above Sacramento with others and cuting wood.  Captain Rovert bought the wood and rafted
it to Sacramento and San Francisco, where he sold it.  James drove team for Mr.
Milton for three summers to the mines.  He then went to Colusa County  where he farmed with 
relatives and friends and there he and Margaret Catherine Jamieson were married
22 Jun 1858.   They lived in Yolo, Colusa,Tahema and Shasta Counties in
California, farming, driving team and wagon, merchandising , and butchering.   Written by J>W> Gill
